Amberjacks Hold Off Yardbirds 3-2

July 26 2018 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 3-2 at Adelanto Stadium. Monterey scored twice in the fifth inning and added another run in the seventh, finishing with 11 hits. High Desert answered with two runs in the eighth but could not complete the comeback and finished with six hits and three errors.

Ethan Skowronski hit a home run and drove in a run for Monterey, while Thomas Prospero also recorded an RBI. Cutter McDowell, Jeremy Glore, K. Connolly and Ian Jones each had two hits. The Yardbirds received an RBI from Shane Brown, and Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson and Travis Holm collected extra-base hits.

Jones earned the win after allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three over six scoreless innings. Andrew Arnold surrendered two runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts over three innings but secured the save. Jordan Norton took the loss for High Desert despite allowing only one earned run over six innings; he gave up nine hits and struck out four.

July 25 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 7-2 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. High Desert collected 18 hits and scored four runs in the first inning before adding another run in the second to take an early 5-0 lead. The Yardbirds also scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth, while Bakersfield scored in the fifth and ninth innings.

Shane Brown drove in two runs for High Desert and went 2-for-3. Aaron Cook and Travis Holm each had three hits, with Cook adding an RBI and Holm scoring once and driving in a run. Daniel Diaz contributed four hits and an RBI, while Creigton Ubides also drove in a run. High Desert’s scoring included doubles by Ronnie Grant and Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson, and the Yardbirds stole two bases as a team.

Diaz earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing nine hits and two runs, both earned, while striking out 10 and walking three over nine innings. He threw 138 pitches, 90 for strikes. Michael Elwell took the loss for Bakersfield after allowing five earned runs on nine hits in four innings. Bakersfield’s Sonny Cortez and Tobias Moreno each drove in a run, while Moreno had two hits and a stolen base.

July 24 2018 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 14-2 after combining 15 hits with scoring in seven innings. Bakersfield scored twice in the first, then added one run in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Train Robbers added two runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth to pull away.

Kyle Bonicki led Bakersfield with three hits, three RBI and a home run. Sonny Cortez went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double, while Steve Pascaul and C. Rocker each drove in two and added doubles. Jesse Baker and Tobias Moreno each scored three runs, and Rob Lain scored twice while also contributing a hit.

Rob Lain earned the win for Bakersfield after allowing four hits and two earned runs in seven innings. He walked one and struck out four. Jordan Grader and Zack Kamerman each worked a scoreless inning to finish the victory.

High Desert scored twice in the first inning but was held scoreless thereafter. Ronnie Grant had two of the Yardbirds six hits, while Aaron Cook and Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson each drove in a run. Adolfo Espinoza took the loss after surrendering 10 hits and eight runs seven earned in 5.1 innings.

July 23 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds rallied past the California City Whiptails 8-6 after scoring twice in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie. High Desert finished with 12 hits and overcame four errors, while California City also collected 12 hits and committed two errors.

California City scored twice in each of the first two innings and added two more runs in the sixth. Tino Mention led the Whiptails with four hits, including two doubles, while Johnny Abbaduscky drove in two runs. Jordan Dicks and Nick Snyder each added an RBI, and California City took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth before High Desert pulled even.

Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson went 3-for-5 with an RBI to pace High Desert. Demetrius Moorer had two hits and two walks, Steven Longo went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Kade Wagner drove in two runs. High Desert scored three times in the third, then added single runs in the fourth and fifth before its decisive two-run seventh.

Gregg Gausden earned the win after allowing one hit with one walk and three strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Avery Brandon recorded the save with a hitless ninth, issuing one walk and striking out one. Kade Wagner started for High Desert and allowed 11 hits and six runs, three earned, in six innings. California City starter Ty Rowe surrendered seven hits and six runs, four earned, while walking nine and striking out six in four innings. Kent Blackstone led the Yardbirds with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Eric Schneider went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run, while Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson added a hit and an RBI. Blackstone and Johnson-Wilcoxson each recorded a double.

Kyle Chavez earned the win after allowing six hits and three walks while striking out four in six scoreless innings. Jalen Byrd, Daniel Bodishbaugh and Kevin Kelleher each followed with a scoreless inning to complete the shutout. Monterey starter Evan Bertone took the loss after surrendering four earned runs on seven hits in eight innings, while Andrew Arnold struck out three in a scoreless ninth.

July 21 2018 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the High Desert Yardbirds 6-5 at Sollectio Park. Monterey finished with 12 hits and High Desert collected 10. The Amberjacks scored once in the first inning before adding three runs in the seventh and another run in the eighth according to the inning line.

Trevor Westmoreland powered Monterey with a two-run home run among his two hits and drove in three runs. James Prockish and Dynas Doud each had two hits while Cutter McDowell doubled and contributed an RBI. Ronald Jackson also recorded two hits for the Amberjacks.

High Deserts offense was led by Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson who went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Shane Brown added two RBI and Jake Marshall hit a home run and drove in a run. The Yardbirds scored twice in the sixth inning and three times in the seventh.

Connor Mcguiness earned the win for Monterey after throwing a scoreless inning with two walks. Matt Naval pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and Billy OHara added two scoreless innings. Kade Wagner took the loss for High Desert after allowing three hits and one run in one-third of an inning.

July 20 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 9-6 in a game that featured 22 combined hits. High Desert collected 12 hits and scored twice in the first inning, four times in the fifth, once in the seventh and twice in the eighth. Monterey finished with 10 hits and scored two runs in the first, one in the fifth and three in the seventh.

Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson led the Yardbirds with two home runs and four RBI, while Eric Schneider added a home run and two RBI. Johnson-Wilcoxson scored three runs, and Shane Brown went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. High Desert also received two hits apiece from Demetrius Moorer Aaron Cook and Steven Longo.

Montereys Cutter McDowell hit a two-run home run, and Thomas Prospero drove in two runs. Zack Jones had three hits and an RBI for the Amberjacks. Monterey rallied for three runs in the seventh to move within one run at 7-6, but the Yardbirds answered with two runs in the eighth to secure the victory.

Danny Diaz earned the win after allowing 10 hits and six runs five earned in 6.1 innings, with five walks and five strikeouts. Daniel Bodishbaugh worked 1.2 scoreless innings before Avery Brandon finished the game with a scoreless ninth for the save. July 19 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 19-7 at Hollister Memorial Park, scoring in eight of nine innings and collecting 23 hits. High Desert took control early with three runs in the first inning, three more in the second and four in the third to build a 10-0 lead. The Yardbirds added five runs in the eighth to pull away.

Demetrius Moorer powered the High Desert offense by going 4-for-6 with four runs, seven RBI and three home runs. Kent Blackstone added two hits, three runs, two RBI and a home run, while Eric Schneider went 3-for-4 with two runs, three RBI and a homer. Ronnie Grant finished 3-for-6 with three runs, and Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson also collected four hits.

Monterey totaled 10 hits, led by Cutter McDowells 4-for-4 performance with two RBI and a home run. Dynas Doud went 3-for-5 with three RBI and also homered. The Amberjacks scored twice in the fifth, three times in the eighth and twice in the ninth, but could not overcome the early deficit.

Adolfo Espinoza earned the win for High Desert after allowing four hits and two runs, one earned, over five innings while striking out six and walking two. Jake Samson took the loss for Monterey, surrendering 16 hits and 14 earned runs in seven innings. High Desert finished with 19 runs and one error, while Monterey had seven runs and two errors.

Bakersfield trailed 4-2 entering the eighth before completing the comeback. The Train Robbers finished with 10 hits and no errors, while High Desert collected 12 hits and committed two errors.

High Desert scored once in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings. Demetrius Moorer went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while Kent Blackstone had three hits, including a double, and Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Eric Schneider added two hits and an RBI for the Yardbirds.

Bakersfield’s late offense included two hits and an RBI from Peter Yorgen, two hits and an RBI from Nick Delgado, and two RBIs from Brett Balkan. Nick Vehlewald contributed an RBI single as a pinch hitter, while Kyle Bonicki and Sonny Cortez each scored a run.

Chris Danielson earned the win for Bakersfield after pitching one scoreless inning without allowing a hit. Dylan Porter worked four innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, while Jordan Grader pitched two innings and surrendered one run. High Desert starter Kade Wagner struck out six and allowed two runs, none earned, over 6.1 innings, but Harold Myles took the loss after giving up three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Ryan Rodriguez powered the Whiptails offense by going 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI. Tino Mention added one hit, two runs and three RBI, while Hunter Villanueva drove in two runs and Peter Pena went 2-for-2 with two RBI. California City added three runs in the sixth and two in the eighth to maintain its advantage.

Demetrius Moorer led High Desert with two hits, two runs and three stolen bases. Kent Blackstone went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson added two hits and one RBI. High Desert also received a hit and a run from pinch-hitter Andrew Calderone. High Desert built an early 5-0 lead with one run in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. Bakersfield answered with four runs in the sixth and added one in the seventh and three in the eighth to pull within 9-8, but the Yardbirds put the game away in the ninth.

Aaron Cook went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, one RBI and two walks for High Desert.
