July 25 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Bakersfield Train Robbers 7-2 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. High Desert collected 18 hits and scored four runs in the first inning before adding another run in the second to take an early 5-0 lead. The Yardbirds also scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth, while Bakersfield scored in the fifth and ninth innings.
Shane Brown drove in two runs for High Desert and went 2-for-3. Aaron Cook and Travis Holm each had three hits, with Cook adding an RBI and Holm scoring once and driving in a run. Daniel Diaz contributed four hits and an RBI, while Creigton Ubides also drove in a run. High Desert’s scoring included doubles by Ronnie Grant and Jason Johnson-Wilcoxson, and the Yardbirds stole two bases as a team.
Diaz earned the win with a complete-game performance, allowing nine hits and two runs, both earned, while striking out 10 and walking three over nine innings. He threw 138 pitches, 90 for strikes. Michael Elwell took the loss for Bakersfield after allowing five earned runs on nine hits in four innings. Bakersfield’s Sonny Cortez and Tobias Moreno each drove in a run, while Moreno had two hits and a stolen base.
