June 26 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 6-2 at Adelanto Stadium, using a three-run first inning and a two-run third to build an early advantage. High Desert added another run in the seventh, while Monterey scored once in the fourth and once in the ninth. The Yardbirds finished with 10 hits to Monterey’s nine and committed one error compared with three for the Amberjacks.
Eric Schneider led High Desert’s offense by going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBI and one run scored. Kent Blackstone added two hits, including two doubles, and scored once, while Ronnie Grant scored twice and collected a double. Aaron Cook and Harmon each drove in a run, and Cook stole two bases.
Adolfo Espinoza earned the win after allowing one run on four hits in five innings while striking out five and walking two. Jeremy Barth worked two scoreless innings, and Jalen Byrd added a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Avery Brandon recorded the save despite allowing one run on three hits in the ninth. Monterey starter Ian Jones took the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, on nine hits in six innings, with four strikeouts and three walks.
