June 11 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the Monterey Amberjacks 8-7 after building an early lead and holding off a late Monterey rally. High Desert scored once in the first inning, added three runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the eighth. Monterey answered with five runs in the fifth and two in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback.
Dominic Zaher led the Yardbirds with three hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Ronnie Grant added two hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs, while Demetrius Moorer went 3-for-3 with two walks and scored three times. High Desert finished with 15 hits and eight RBI.
Jordan Norton earned the win after allowing 11 hits and five runs over seven innings, with two earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Cip Garza recorded the save despite allowing two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings. Monterey collected 14 hits, with Thomas Prospero recording two hits and three RBI, while Will Salas and Ronald Jackson each had two hits and one RBI.
