Yardbirds Pull Away From Whiptails 8-3

May 25 2018 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the California City Whiptails 8-3, breaking open a scoreless game with a five-run seventh inning before adding two more runs in the eighth. California City scored all three of its runs in the seventh, but High Desert maintained the lead the rest of the way. The Yardbirds finished with eight hits while the Whiptails had five.

Shane Brown led High Desert with two hits and five RBI, including a home run. Ronnie Grant added two hits and a double, scored twice and stole a base. High Desert also received a two-hit performance from Steven Longo, while Demetrius Moorer scored twice and stole two bases.

California City’s Tino Mention hit a three-run home run and drove in all three Whiptails runs. Taylor Zeutenhorst and Eli Roundtree each recorded a double, but California City left 12 runners on base.

Kyle Chavez earned the win after allowing three hits and no runs in six innings. He struck out five and walked six. Jalen Byrd allowed three runs, two earned, in one inning before Avery Brandon closed the game with two scoreless innings for the save. Ty Rowe took the loss for California City after allowing four runs in six innings.
