High Desert Yardbirds Defeat California City Whiptails 17-5

July 29 2019 The High Desert Yardbirds defeated the California City Whiptails 17-5 behind a 20-hit attack. High Desert scored in seven innings, including a three-run first, two-run second, three-run fifth, three-run eighth and four-run ninth. California City finished with nine hits and scored three runs in the first and two in the seventh.

Brandon Speas led the Yardbirds with three hits, three runs and five RBI while hitting two home runs. Joey Macaluso scored four times, added two hits, two RBI and two walks, and also homered. D. Reddy went 3-for-7 with four runs, one RBI and a home run, while Anthony Ward added three hits, two runs, two RBI and a homer. Oscar Larranaga contributed three hits and two RBI.

Colton Draney earned the win after allowing five hits and three runs over six innings. He walked two and struck out 12. Nico Mayoral, Cole Langdon and Evan Bell combined to cover the final three innings, with Langdon striking out three in a scoreless inning.

California Citys Edwin Stanberry collected three hits, including two doubles, and Tyler England hit a two-run home run. Lukus Holub took the loss after surrendering six runs on six hits and nine walks in four innings. Roberto Jimenez and Cody Castro also pitched for the Whiptails, who were held scoreless over the final two innings.
